I'm a PA (Physician Assistant) by trade. That provider you see when you go to an urgent care, to see your specialist or primary care provider that isn't a doctor? That's me. I work in Urgent Care, and I really do enjoy it. I could technically continue working in urgent care for many years, and I’m sure it would be fine. I’ve realized, though, that I have many interests, and medicine just isn’t my favorite.
When I was in college, I took an intro to computer science course that taught me about the Worldwide Web and some very basic coding knowledge that channeled me back into those ‘MySpace’ days of early middle school when everyone was manipulating the existing code to their specifications. I fell in love with the “tech” world then, but couldn’t go any further with it because of how late in the game I was with taking the course.
Fast forward to now. After 3 years in medicine, I was thinking of other things I could do to feel challenged and feel my mind actually working a little harder than it’s had to lately, and I was reminded of that class I took. Hours of looking at different ‘bootcamps’ for Fullstack Engineering later, and I was halfway to giving up. The websites said one thing, and the Reddit about them said something totally different…until I saw a random comment. A guy mentions a mentorship-type program that focuses on design and teaching you from the ground-up. It was about 2/3 AM, and I had finally found the program that I believed to be for me. It’s Day 24, and Design for the Web has, thus far, really taught me from a perspective of programming and design made by humans to help make our lives easier with easy navigation and clean design. I’ve even gravitated to a design career option that I’d never even heard of until this mentorship. It’s only the beginning, but I’m very excited and can’t wait to see where the collaboration and further teachings will take me!
I am excited to hear more! Your background in healthcare will make you such an invaluable asset to any dev team!
